Emergency Wait Time

If you need urgent medical care, call 911 or go to the Emergency at the hospital nearest you.

Wait times are often shorter between 7 a.m. and 11 p.m., when a physician is dedicated to minor emergencies and follow-up. This approach allows other members of our medical team to spend more time with patients with urgent and complex needs.

Alternatives to the Emergency Department

If you have a health concern that is not necessarily critical, here are some alternatives to coming to an Emergency Department:

  • make an appointment with your family doctor
    • If you do not have a family doctor, contact Health Care Connect (Ontario patients) or the Guichet d'accès à un médecin de famille (Quebec patients)
  • visit a walk-in clinic,
  • consult a pharmacist,
    • A pharmacist can refill your prescriptions or prescribe treatment for certain health problems
  • call HealthConnect Ontario or Info-Santé (in Quebec) at 811

For your visit to the Emergency, bring:

  • Your Health card
  • The up-to-date list of your medications and allergies
  • the telephone number of the person who can be contacted in case of emergency, and who can pick you up when you are ready to leave the hospital, if necessary.
