HFO Program for New Nursing Graduates: A unique way to start your career
Hôpital Montfort is proud to participate in the Nursing Graduate Guarantee (NGG) initiative .
In concrete terms, this is an initiative of the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care aimed at facilitating the integration of new nursing and practical nursing graduates into the job market through 450 hours of support giving them direct access to a full-time position or the equivalent of full-time hours for 1 year.
This program helps new nursing graduates find full-time work in Ontario. The job guarantee for nursing graduates is part of the Health Profession Ontario (HPO) strategy, better known by its acronym HFO, Health Force Ontario.
Eligibility criteria for the NGG initiative:
Canadian-trained nursing students:
- Hold a valid Certificate of Qualification from the College of Nurses of Ontario (or undertake to take steps to obtain it before taking up the position).
- Graduate of a nursing or practical nursing program;
- Must not have been employed as a nurse in Ontario in the six months prior to participating in the NGG initiative;
- Match an employer on the NGG online portal within 12 months of registering with the College of Nurses of Ontario;
- Commitment to accept full-time employment or the equivalent of full-time hours with the employer following completion of the 450 hours
Foreign-trained nursing students:
- Hold a valid Certificate of Qualification from the College of Nurses of Ontario (or undertake to take steps to obtain it before taking up the position).
- Have completed their nursing training abroad;
- Must not have been employed as a nurse in Ontario in the six months preceding participation in the NGG initiative;
- Have found an employer through the NGG online portal within 12 months of registering with the College of Nurses of Ontario;
- Agree to accept full-time employment or the equivalent of full-time hours with the employer following completion of the 450 hours required by the initiative.
