Hospitalization expenses
Your provincial health card and your personal health insurance are your hospitalization passport. Please be aware of the provisions set out in your personal insurance policy in order to avoid any misunderstanding.
There is a daily fee for patients awaiting placement in a long-term care or chronic care facility. A placement agent or social worker is at your service to help you and your family make the necessary arrangements.
Costs incurred that are not covered by your personal insurance policy or by your provincial health plan will be billed to you. You may pay online with a credit card; by mail by returning the payment slip at the bottom of your invoice; by phone at 613-746-4621, ext. 2127, or in person with a credit or debit card.
If you have any questions, please call 613-746-4621, ext. 2127 or see the cashier in room 2C128.
The cashier is located in room 1A159. When you enter the main lobby, head towards the café (currently closed) then take the hallway to your left; the cashier is located at the end of the hall. Remember that you can also safely pay online.
Ontario residents
You must have a valid Ontario Health Card for the provincial health insurance plan (OHIP) to cover services received during your hospital stay, such as a hospital room with three or four beds. Some of the fees that are NOT covered by the provincial health insurance plan are listed below:
- the additional costs of a room with one bed (private) or two beds (semi-private) ($230 per day for a semi-private room and $270 for a private room);
- the cost of medical devices such as crutches, canes, splints, orthopedic devices, etc.;
- the cost of ambulance services ($45 if the patient is covered by the Ontario provincial health insurance plan and the service is deemed necessary).
Residents of another Canadian province
Hospitalization fees are covered for residents of other provinces as long as the patient presents a valid health card from his or her province. Although the Ontario health insurance plan covers home care fees for Ontario residents, these services are not covered for patients from other provinces.
Other fees that are NOT covered by the provincial health insurance plan are listed below:
- the difference between the cost of a room with one bed (private) or two beds (semi-private) and a room with three or four beds ($230 per day for a semi-private room and $270 for a private room);
- the cost of medical devices such as crutches, canes, splints, orthopedic devices, etc.;
- the cost of ambulance services ($240 if the patient is not covered by the Ontario provincial health insurance plan and the service is deemed necessary).
Non-residents of Canada
Patients from all other countries must personally pay all hospital fees such as admission, visits to clinics and to the emergency department, x-rays, etc. Honorariums for doctors and anesthesiologists are not included in hospital fees.
