Statement of the Board of Trustees against discrimination, racism and racial inequality
Statement of the Board of Trustees of Hôpital Montfort
Against discrimination, racism and racial inequality and for the promotion of diversity, equity and inclusion
The Board recognizes that a diverse and inclusive environment that values a variety of perspectives, backgrounds, skills and experiences provides a deeper exchange of perspectives. Diversity enriches discussions among members and better reflects the connection that Hôpital Montfort has with its patients, staff, partners and other stakeholders. The coming together of talent and expertise, as well as the evolution of the community and staff, promotes better governance.
The Board of Trustees is committed to building a culture of inclusion and valuing the benefits that diversity offers. In doing so, it promotes the inclusion of different perspectives, opinions and ideas to mitigate groupthink and to ensure that Montfort can benefit from all available talent.
As part of the process of selecting members of the Association, the Board of Trustees, or a committee, the merit of a prospective candidate is evaluated based on a variety of factors. These factors include ability, aptitude, personal suitability, education, professional skills and experience. Diversity factors are also considered, including ethnic and geographic background, color, race, religion, age, gender, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, marital status, family status or disability. Particular emphasis is placed on potential candidates from the Black, Native American, and LGBTQ2+ communities as well as the disability community. Other characteristics of the community served by the hospital may also be considered.
In addition, the governance committee annually reviews the size and composition of the board and its committees to identify imbalances or gaps and opportunities for increased diversity. In particular, the Committee promotes balanced representation in terms of tenure and age of directors and committee members and encourages diversity in this regard, including with respect to officer positions and the appointment of new members.
Compliance with this statement is assessed as part of the periodic evaluation process of the Board, its committees and its directors. The Committee shall review this statement periodically and recommend any changes to the Board.
This statement applies to the Hospital's Board of Trustees and its committees. It does not apply to staff diversity, which is a separate policy.
