What is gastroenteritis?
Gastroenteritis is an illness of the stomach and intestine that is caused by a virus. The person with gastroenteritis can have the following symptoms: fever, headache, abdominal cramps, vomiting and/or diarrhea. Gastroenteritis does not usually have serious consequences but can lead to dehydration. The illness usually lasts 1 to 2 days.
How is gastroenteritis treated?
There is no particular medication to treat gastroenteritis. The main objective is to prevent dehydration.
How is the gastroenteritis virus transmitted?
Gastroenteritis is spread by contact with the sick person or by contact with objects/surfaces contaminated with vomitus or feces.
