During my stay

Staying at Montfort

At Montfort, we want you to feel at home. Your well-being is our number one priority.

During your stay

Hospital staff will do everything possible to ensure that you are comfortable and treated with dignity and compassion. During your stay, please feel free to ask questions or raise any concerns you may have. Cell phones, smartphones and PDAs are permitted in the hospital. We ask that you show respect for those around you.

Please note that Montfort is a scent free environment; wearing scented products is not recommended for patients and visitors.

Personal effects

We recommend that you bring all of your identity cards, your provincial health card, your personal health insurance card, your file number with the Workplace Safety and Insurance Board (if applicable) and a credit card.

You will need to bring, according to your personal needs:

  • pyjamas or nightgowns;
  • a bathrobe;
  • slippers or interior shoes (anti-skid);
  • underwear;
  • a toothbrush and toothpaste;
  • a comb or hair brush soap as well as shampoo;
  • deodorant;

You may also want to bring:

  • denture cream and container;
  • a shaving kit;
  • mouthwash;

  • sanitary napkins;
  • contact lens case and solution;
  • a shower cap.

You may wish to bring books and magazines, hobby items or games that are not too cumbersome. Free Internet access is available via the public Wi-Fi network "Montfort_Public".

Montfort is not responsible for the breakage, loss or theft of personal effects. It is important that you do not keep your valuable items nor a large sum of money with you during your stay.

Patients Meals

Our Nutrition department offers you balanced meals based on the Canada Food Guide. Menu requests for patients are filled two days in advance; this means that for the first two days of your stay, you might not be able to pre-select the food you will receive.

If the doctor prescribes a special diet for you, your meals will be created accordingly. You should also let a member of your care team know if you have any food allergies or dietary restrictions.

Starting on April 8th and lasting several weeks, renovation work will be carried out in the dishroom. Due to the renovation we will be serving all patient meals on disposable, compostable dishes.

Smoking cessation

Smoking is not allowed on the hospital's property.

If you still wish to smoke, you will have to go to Montreal Road. Smoke from tobacco products is a proven health hazard, as a provider of health-care services we strive for a smoke-free environment for our employees, volunteers, patients and visitors. We all breathe the same air.

We can help you quit smoking!

Deciding to quit smoking is one of the best things you can do for your health. The health benefits of quitting can be felt as early as 20 minutes after your last cigarette!

Our health-care providers can assist patients who want to quit smoking now or in the future. They help patients get ready to quit, provide support while the person is quitting and arrange for medication to help the person quit smoking if appropriate.

Many resources are available in the community to help you quit. The following sites can give you more information and support as you make this important change in your life.
