Montfort among top three Canadian hospitals for research growth this year

Ottawa, December 8, 2023 - Montfort, Ontario's Francophone academic hospital, is one of three Canadian hospitals to have experienced the greatest growth in research investment over the past year. It's also the hospital's ninth consecutive appearance among Canada's top 40 research hospitals.

The list of research hospitals is compiled by Research InfoSource Inc. a Canadian company specializing in research and development information, as part of the Canada's Top 40 Research Hospitals report.

Montfort entered the ranks of Canada's top research hospitals in 2015. This year, the hospital positioned itself 18th in Ontario, 38th nationally, and third in terms of growth in research investment, with an increase of 24.9%.

"The significant increase in our research investments confirms the importance for Montfort of innovating to shape the future," said Estelle Éthier, Montfort's Vice-President, Teaching and Research, and CEO of the Institut du Savoir Montfort (ISM), the organization responsible for coordinating research, clinical internships and continuing professional development at the hospital.

"Our presence among the top 40 research hospitals for the ninth year in a row is a testament to the innovative spirit of our clinicians and researchers, and we're very proud of that!" added Dominic Giroux, President and CEO of Montfort. "Montfort has a healthy knowledge culture, and we will continue to grow it, for the good of our community."

The Institut du Savoir Montfort, which has made collaborative research its guiding principle, aims to be the leader in Francophone health research and education in the country. With its interdisciplinary approach, the ISM continues to refine research at Montfort. The ISM has seven research chairs and 130 research members, 60 of whom are clinician researchers. The ISM's research activities total $11.8 million, enabling 108 research projects and 10 clinical trials currently underway.
