Postponement of the 8th World Congress to 2022

Montreal, October 7, 2020 - Due to the health conditions associated with the COVID-19 pandemic, the Secrétariat international des infirmières et infirmiers de l'espace francophone (SIDIIEF) announces that postponement of its triennial world congress. Initially scheduled for 2021, the Congress will take place from the 12th to the 15th of June 15, 2022, in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada.

The triennial SIDIIEF World Congress - A must-attend event for the nursing profession

Hosted by Hôpital Montfort, the theme of this eighth congress is Creating Health, the Strength of nursing knowledge attracts 2,000 nurses from various francophone countries.

This is why, in agreement with Montfort, SIDIIEF chose to postpone the event, in order to adapt to the reality of its participants. In fact, nurses are currently mobilized in each country to cope with the pandemic, to care and to catch up with care put on hold during the first wave.

"The next few months are going to be difficult because of the shortage of nurses," said Hélène Salette, Executive Director of SIDIIEF. "And, in a pandemic context, the sharing of information of nursing experiences from around the world will be most important and rich in content. The idea of an international movement of members of such an indispensable profession in the fight against the pandemic being unrealistic in the short term, the profession's big meeting is therefore postponed. »

A rethought program, reinvented networking activities, a new way to get together, this is the promise of SIDIIEF for this great event of 2022, marked by a period that will go down in history.

An online and participatory pre-conference to think together about tomorrow's care

In anticipation of this major congress, SIDIIEF is working on the development of an online collaborative event in 2021. As we saw with the Grandes discussions," says Hélène Salette, "the nurses have a lot to say and testify about the management of the pandemic. Yet their expertise and their testimonials have received little media coverage. We invite them to make their voices heard in 2021, to exchange with other key players and thus contribute to thinking and rethinking care."

The global nursing community will be invited to come and discuss with international speakers of the various priority issues arising from the pandemic and to identify possible nursing solutions. This event will set the stage for the World Congress. It will allow nurses to access online quality content, dynamic exchanges and to be able to bring their expertise to the current health issues.

Together, let's make the nursing voice heard for better health care!
