Accreditation with Exemplary Standing for Montfort

For the second time, the academic hospital reaches the highest recognition level in Canada

Ottawa - May 23, 2018 – It is with great pride that the Montfort team learnt it has been granted accreditation with exemplary standing by Accreditation Canada. This is the second consecutive exemplary standing for Ontario's Francophone academic hospital, after reaching the same level in 2014.

Accreditation Canada is an independent organization that evaluates over 1000 health care and social service organizations and 7000 sites in Canada and around the world, with the goal of excellence in health care and services.

The accreditation is a continuous improvement process culminating in a peer review, working in health care institutions across Canada.

Four Accreditation Canada visitors conducted an inspection of the Montfort from April 15 to 20, 2018 and noted a compliance rate for 2393 of the 2419 standards assessed, which led to the second “Accreditation with Exemplary Standing”.

The visitors testified that the patient is really at the heart of Montfort's concerns. The Accreditation Visitor Report also highlighted the warm welcome and the commitment of staff, the integration of best practices, the rigorous processes, the importance of measuring outcomes and achieving goals, the regular rounds with patients and employees, as well as teamwork and the quality of services offered.

Since the last Accreditation visit in 2014, Health Standards Organization (Accreditation Canada) has also recognized four new Leading Practices at Montfort:

  • A patient-partner redefines the flow of the surgical program
  • Implementation of a logic model for the Mental Health Program
  • Patient-centred wellness check: tightening the safety net at discharge
  • Peer support and family peer support

“I would like to thank from the bottom of my heart all the members of the team for their dedication to this process of continuous improvement and to the safety of care for our patients,” announced Dr. Bernard Leduc, President and CEO of Montfort, during a small celebration to which the staff members were invited. “Your sense of responsibility, your compassion, your mutual support, your excellence and your respect shine every day and visitors have noticed it.”
