Two Ontario Francophone Institutions Join Forces

Collaboration agreement between the Centre francophone de Toronto and Hôpital Montfort

TORONTO and OTTAWA, Tuesday November 27, 2018 – It is in the heart of the Queen City that the leaders of Hôpital Montfort and the Centre francophone de Toronto (CFT) signed a collaboration agreement, earlier today.

Under the new agreement, Montfort will be able, for example, to benefit from CFT’s expertise in multiculturalism and community development, for the benefit of the entire Ontario Francophone community.

For its part, the CFT will have access to Montfort’s resources and expertise in terms of efficiency, as well as the optimization of primary health care and mental health with the use of new technologies, among others.

“The collaboration and synergy of institutions that are geographically distant but linked by language, and their contribution to the well-being of Francophones is a unique model for enhancing the value of our mutual expertise, of which we are proud and which, beyond Montfort and the Centre Francophone, will benefit the entire Franco-Ontarian community,” said Florence Ngenzebuhoro, Executive Director of the Centre francophone de Toronto.

“We are very pleased and proud to join forces with the Centre francophone de Toronto, and to take another step forward in fulfilling our provincial mandate,” said Dr. Bernard Leduc, President and CEO of Montfort.

About the Centre francophone de Toronto

The Centre francophone de Toronto contributes to the well-being of Francophones in the Greater Toronto Area, in all their diversity. It promotes a community-based and multidisciplinary approach by offering a wide range of services, including primary health care and health promotion, child and adult mental health, child development, employment services, legal aid, newcomer settlement, community relations and volunteer work. The Centre's vision is to create a healthy, dynamic Franco-Toronto community that is proud to take its place. The Centre is guided by the following values: respect, accountability and community engagement.

About Montfort

Montfort is Ontario’s Francophone Academic Hospital, offering exemplary person-centred care. Affiliated to the University of Ottawa, the hospital serves over 1.2 million people in Eastern Ontario, in both official languages.

When Montfort was designated as an academic hospital in 2013, this new status was accompanied by responsibilities assigned by the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care. According to this provincial mandate, Montfort must, among other things, participate in planning and supporting French language health services, including clinical supports for patients and health professionals in communities across Ontario. The hospital must also serve as a Centre of Excellence and hub for French language health care professional education.

Thanks to its partnership with the Institut du Savoir Montfort, a knowledge institute, Montfort has joined the ranks of Canada’s top 40 research hospitals. The daily actions of the Montfort team are guided by compassion, respect, mutual support, excellence and accountability.
