Montfort’s strategic planning recognized as a Leading Practice

Ottawa, April 10, 2026  – Montfort’s strategic plan for 2024-2028, developed around an unprecedented mobilization of communities, has been recognized as a Leading Practice by the Health Standards Organization (HSO) and Accreditation Canada. This is the 14th Leading Practice awarded to Montfort by these leading national and international organizations in quality and safe care since 2013.

The recognition of Montfort’s 2024-2028 Strategic Plan: Mobilizing Communities Around a Common Vision, brings to light an innovative approach to strategic planning, jointly spearheaded by Hôpital Montfort, Institut du Savoir Montfort and Santé Montfort. For the first time, these three organizations adopted a common strategic plan, based on a unique and rallying vision: a bold Francophonie for healthy communities.

The Leading Practice recognized by the HSO emphasizes a structure and profoundly participatory approach that mobilized over 1300 people—staff, partners, patients, communities and stakeholders—through 80 consultation opportunities in different regions of Ontario, in 2024. This vast mobilization served to pinpoint clear priorities, measurable results and a coherent decision-making framework to guide Montfort’s clinical, academic and community actions until 2028.

“This recognition confirms the strength of our model and, in particular, the value of a strategic plan developed with and for our communities,” says Dominic Giroux, President and CEO of Montfort. “In the context of major transformations in our healthcare system, we chose a bold model that focuses on collaboration and a real willingness to listen. Being recognized by the HSO and Accreditation Canada in this process is a tremendous source of pride for all our teams and partners.”

The “Montfort model” stands out for its:

  • clearly mapped process and deliverables;
  • internal multidisciplinary project team;
  • decision-making mechanisms that promote consensus;
  • rigorous validation through surveys and participatory methods;
  • orientation resolutely geared towards concrete and measurable results;

This new distinction reflects Montfort’s ongoing commitment to continuous quality improvement, evidence-based leadership and close collaboration with the communities it serves.

This is an outstanding recognition for Montfort and for everyone who contributed to this work,” says Ottawa Mayor, Mark Sutcliffe. “What stands out most to me is how deeply this strategic plan was shaped by the people it serves – the patients, families, staff, partners, and community members who all had a real voice in the process. I want to congratulate the entire Montfort team, along with Institut du Savoir Montfort and Santé Montfort, for this achievement and for continuing to set a high standard for care for our residents.”

“While participating in the various steps involved in Montfort’s strategic planning process, I was struck by its real commitment to listening to communities and to the diversity of francophone realities across the province,” says Fabien Hébert, President of the Assemblée de la francophonie de l’Ontario. “This recognition is a testament to what can be accomplished when Francophone communities are fully involved in defining their future.”
