Nine exceptional Ontarians elected to governance positions at Hôpital Montfort

Ottawa, June 18, 2026 – Nine exceptional Ontarians, from Ottawa, Rockland, St. Albert and Toronto, were elected to the Board of Directors and the Association de l’Hôpital Montfort, Ontario’s Francophone academic hospital, at last night’s Annual Meeting. 

The 100 members of the Association serve as Montfort ambassadors and support the hospital in its mission, in particular by electing the members of the Board of Directors, participating in annual meetings, and serving as a link between the community and the hospital. 

Montfort wishes to welcome: 

  • Manon Abud, Vice-President, Engagement, Canadian Medical Association 
  • Omer Boudreau, Leadership Consultant, former Vice-President of the Public Service Commission of Canada and the Canadian Food Inspection Agency 
  • Sébastien Lorquet, Lawyer and Associate at Fasken Martineau DuMoulin, former Chair of the Board of Directors of the Festival franco-ontarien, and former President of the fundraising campaign for the new Mouvement d’implication francophone d’Orléans (MIFO)  
  • Mathieu Mault, CEO, Activar Hôtels 
  • James Yersh, President of PointClickCare and former Chief Financial Officer of BlackBerry 

Four members of the Association were also elected to the Board of Directors, whose number of elected members increased from 12 to 14: 

  • Pierre Corriveau, Engineer and Accountant, former Assistant Deputy Minister in the federal public service, and former member of Montfort’s Management and Audit Committee​ 
  • Marie-Lison Fougère, former Deputy Minister in the Ontario public service, in particular in the ministries of Training, Colleges and Universities, Seniors and Accessibility, Long-Term Care, Status of Women, and Francophone Affairs, President of the Conseil de gouvernance of Université de l’Ontario français, and President of the Comité de gouvernance of the Board of Directors of the Communauté du Trille blanc 
  • Nya Njeuga, Superintendent of Education of the Conseil des écoles catholiques du Centre-Est, Vice-President of the Association des gestionnaires de l’éducation franco-ontarienne, and member of Montfort’s Human Resources Committee
  • Stéphan Plourde, Chief Operating Officer of the Canadian College of Health Leaders, retired Colonel and former Chief of Staff of the Canadian Forces Health Services, Surveyor for Accreditation Canada for more than 20 years, in particular in Indigenous communities, and a certified health leader.

A year marked by success 

The Annual Meeting was also an opportunity to review the achievements over the last year, through the presentation of reports: from the representative of the Patient Partner Council, André Bléoo; the Chair of the Board, Marie-Josée Martel; the President and CEO of the hospital, Dominic Giroux; the Chief of Staff, Dr. Chantal D’Aoust-Bernard; as well as the reception of the financial statements and the Rapport annuel sur l’état des services en français

The highlights in the Annual Report to the Community, include: 

  • Accreditation with Exemplary Standing, the highest distinction awarded by Accreditation Canada, for the fourth time in a row 
  • Creation of the French Language Health Planning Centre 
  • Recognition of Montfort’s strategic planning process as a Leading Practice by the Health Standards Organization 
  • Announcement of the new Montfort Ottawa West Community Family Health Team 
  • Balanced operational budget for the third consecutive year, despite a total increase in revenue of only 2% and a significant increase in demand, including 9% in births, 7% in mental health, 6% in CT scans, and 4% in outpatient clinics 
  • Montfort’s continuous progress among the best hospitals in the country, now ranking 39th among 600 hospitals, a jump of 25 places since 2019; its recognition for the seventh time as one of the best employers in the National Capital Region; as well as its recognition for the eleventh consecutive year as one of the top 40 research hospitals in Canada 
  • Improvement in performance for the six indicators for Emergency wait times, improving its ranking from 50th last year to 34th this year among 76 hospitals 
  • Increase in the number of visitors to the Aline-Chrétien Health Hub, with 154,000 visits per year, including 80,000 for Montfort services, representing an increase of 6,000 visits in one year 
  • 20% increase in the number of learners in two years, to attain 1,890 this year 
  • Reduction in absenteeism and overtime rates, and improvement in permanent staff retention rates, at its highest level in many years, at 91.8% 
  • Indigenous cultural safety training of more than 1,150 employees and physicians 
  • Submission to the province of the first phase of the hospital’s redevelopment to reconfigure Emergency and intermediate care, add beds, eliminate rooms of more than two patients, renovate neonatal intensive care, enhance teaching spaces, and reduce our ecological footprint 

The entities affiliated with Montfort, namely, the Institut du Savoir Montfort, Santé Montfort, the Montfort Foundation, and the Association des bénévoles de l’Hôpital Montfort, also had the opportunity to provide an overview of their activities last year.
