Montfort receives Accreditation Canada’s highest honour for the fourth consecutive time
Ottawa, June 15, 2026 – Hôpital Montfort has been accredited with exemplary standing, the highest distinction awarded by Accreditation Canada, a national organization. This marks Montfort’s fourth consecutive accreditation with exemplary standing, achieved with 100% compliance with required safety practices and over 99.8% compliance across all 2,439 criteria assessed during the visit.
Hospitals are generally subject to an accreditation visit every four years. This visit was the first conducted at Montfort under Accreditation Canada’s new Qmentum Global program, which came into effect on April 1st, and which includes more rigorous Required Safety Practices (RSPs), replacing the Required Organizational Practices (ROPs).
In its report, the team of five surveyors who visited Montfort from April 20 to 24 highlighted numerous organizational strengths, including
- person-centred care, consistently integrated throughout the hospital – not just in policies, but in day-to-day practices;
- a culture of quality and safety embedded in every department, supported by an integrated quality management system and quality huddles;
- strong governance and a board of directors fully committed to strategic directions;
- a clear commitment to equity, diversity and inclusion, which is tangibly reflected in clinical and organizational approaches;
- numerous innovation initiatives that visitors described as exemplary: the Mental Health Emergency Zone, the Three Wishes Program in critical care, at-home programs such as remote care monitoring, and many others;
- a vibrant academic mandate, which fosters innovation and excellence;
- and the quality of partnerships – community, academic and regional – with many describing Montfort as a partner of choice, often taking the lead in collaborations.
Montfort achieved a 100% compliance rate with the PSR, as well as with the standards and criteria in the vast majority of the sectors assessed: Emergency, critical care, obstetrics, rehabilitation, mental health, imaging, laboratory, perioperative services, infection prevention, governance, leadership, and more.
“This accreditation with exemplary standing reflects the work our teams carry out every day, caring for our patients and our communities,” says Valérie Dubois Desroches, Senior Vice-President, Patient Care at Montfort.
“The surveyors said they could feel the Montfort culture wherever they went. This recognition belongs to the whole team. We have every reason to be very proud,” added Dominic Giroux, President and CEO of Montfort.
In addition to being accredited with exemplary standing, Montfort has 14 leading practices recognized by the Health Standards Organization and Accreditation Canada, notably in the areas of strategic planning, at-home programs, and person-centred approaches. Montfort was also the first organization in Canada to receive a certificate of participation in Accreditation Canada’s Official Languages Recognition Program.
