Montfort to host the 8th World Congress of the SIDIIEF

* Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Secrétariat international des infirmières et infirmiers de l’espace francophone (SIDIIEF) announces the postponement of its triennial world congress. Originally scheduled for 2021, it will take place from June 12 to 15, 2022, in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada.

Thousands of nurses will be heading to Ottawa in 2021

Annonce au congres mondialBordeaux and Ottawa – Wednesday, June 6, 2018 – In partnership with the leadership of the Secrétariat international des infirmières et infirmiers de l’espace francophone (SIDIIEF), Montfort is very pleased to announce that Ottawa will be hosting the 8th edition of the SIDIIEF’s World Congress.

Following an invitation from Montfort, the board of directors of the SIDIIEF agreed to hold the next edition of its congress at the Shaw Centre, in June 2021.

Some 2000 Francophone nurses, from 30 countries, will head to the national capital of Canada in 2021 to discuss new practices, present the results of their research and examine the current state of the nursing profession.

The announcement was made during the SIDIIEF’s 7th Congress, in Bordeaux, France, by Suzanne Robichaud, Vice-President of Clinical Programs and Chief Nursing Officer at Montfort.

“After Paris, Montpellier, Québec City, Marrakesh, Geneva, Montréal and Bordeaux, we would like to invite you to a corner of the Francophonie that you may not know; we’d like to invite you to discover Hôpital Montfort, and discover Ottawa!” said Ms. Robichaud during the announcement at the plenary session on the main stage of Bordeaux’s Congress Center.

The SIDIIEF’s 8th World Congress will be an exceptional opportunity for Ottawa to shine beyond Canada’s borders and to be recognized as a dynamic place, where several colleges and universities are training the next generation of healthcare professionals in concert with the region’s hospitals; where research is being conducted on the best nursing practices; and where the population can receive exemplary care, in English and in French.

“I would like to congratulate Montfort for having been chosen to host the SIDIIEF’s 8th Congress. Ottawa, the national capital of Canada, is the ideal place for Francophone nurses to meet, exchange ideas and share their expertise, all in their mother tongue. Ottawa is proud to be receiving the organizers and delegates of this major world congress of nurses in 2021,” states Jim Watson, mayor of the City of Ottawa.

“The Secrétariat international des infirmières et infirmiers de l’espace francophone is very proud to be associated with Montfort, Ontario’s Francophone academic hospital, recognized for its people-centred exemplary care, as host of its 8th World Congress of French-speaking nurses. Hôpital Montfort will receive the global nursing community and will be the nerve centre of Francophone nursing knowledge from June 6 to 9, 2021,” states Hélène Salette, Nurse, Secretary General of the SIDIIEF.
