Ottawa, October 21, 2024 – Hôpital Montfort’s Emergency Department now bears the name of local company Richcraft Homes, in recognition of the leadership donation made by its owners, the Singhal family, to the Montfort Foundation’s fundraising campaign for the new Mental Health Emergency Zone project.

This project, which will be inaugurated in the coming days, aims to meet the growing need for mental health care in the community. Montfort’s Emergency Department receives proportionally twice as many visits for mental health reasons as other hospitals in Ottawa and the province.

“It was a bold idea to transform a part of our Emergency Department and dedicate it entirely to people in need of mental health care. It was also bold to undertake such a project with a commitment to assume the full cost, with no government funding. It was bold, but it meets a pressing need,” said Montfort’s President and CEO Dominic Giroux, at the event held earlier today to unveil the Emergency Room’s designation and highlight the Singhal family’s contribution.

The Montfort Foundation $2 million fundraising campaign, which was expected to last 18 months, almost completely reached its goal in just 18 weeks, thanks in part to the Singhal family’s donation.
“Today, the Singhal family has taken its commitment even further,” said Steve Grandmont, Chief Executive Officer of Richcraft Homes. “Their generous donation addresses one of the most urgent challenges we face presently — mental health. The new Mental Health Emergency Zone will offer vital support, providing care and resources that are often lifesaving.”

“The Singhal family’s support shows that it’s possible to carry out major projects even without government funding, a testament to our community’s determination and commitment to mental health. It also reminds us of the importance of philanthropic involvement in the continuous improvement of care, teaching and research.”

“The Montfort Foundation is proud to enable innovative projects that improve the quality of care Montfort offers to our communities,” concluded Marc Villeneuve, President and CEO of the Montfort Foundation. “It is thanks to the generous contributions and commitment of donors like the Singhal family that we can aspire to healthy communities.”
