At Montfort, staff members must be vaccinated against COVID-19

Ottawa, August 24, 2021 – Hôpital Montfort is asking all staff members to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 by October 15. As health care workers, it is our duty to protect ourselves and to help protect those around us.

Throughout the pandemic, the support, compassion, and sense of responsibility of our team members have been invaluable. Already, more than 2,000 of our staff members are fully vaccinated.

  • Starting Tuesday, September 7,
    • All staff members who have not submitted their proofs of full vaccination will be required to attend a training session on COVID-19 vaccination in order to make an informed decision.
    • These individuals will be required to be tested for COVID-19 on a regular basis before coming in to work.
  • In addition, by Friday, October 15, each Montfort team member will be required to be fully vaccinated unless they have submitted a medical exemption.

After this date, refusal of the COVID-19 vaccination will no longer be an option. For those who do not comply with the requirements after completing the vaccination training, all options will be considered to effectively enforce our policy.

As an academic hospital providing exemplary person-centered care, we based our decision on our duty to protect the health of our patients and our team members, and the scientific evidence demonstrating, day after day, that the COVID-19 vaccine is the best way to control the pandemic and return to normalcy.

We know it's the right thing to do. It's part of our commitment to our staff, to the people we serve and to our community.

Needless to say, we also encourage the public to protect themselves from COVID-19 by receiving the vaccine, if they haven't already. This is especially important now as the fourth wave of the pandemic continues to progress. There are many options available in the community to receive the vaccine.

Finally, we remind you not to hesitate to come in to the hospital to receive care if you need it; don't wait until your condition worsens before seeking help. All of the hospitals in the region are taking every step to ensure your safety. We are here to care for you, and your safety is our top priority.
