The Montfort continues to stand out among Canada's research Hospitals

Ottawa, January 18, 2022 - Hôpital Montfort continues to rank among Canada's top research hospitals.

The list of research hospitals is compiled by Research InfoSource Inc, a Canadian research and development information company, as part of Canada's Top 40 Research Hospitals report.

In 2015, Montfort entered the list of top Canadian research hospitals. This year, the hospital is ranked 39th nationally.

This success is possible thanks to the ongoing work of the Institut du Savoir Montfort (ISM), the knowledge institute in charge of coordinating research at Montfort, in addition to clinical rotations and continuing professional development.

The ISM, which has made collaborative research its guiding principle, aims to be the reference for francophone research and education in the country. The ISM has seven research chairs, 50 clinical researchers and 111 research associates.

In 2020-21, ISM has been actively involved with its community and collaborators to address the pandemic. Over the course of the year, ISM researchers were supported by a budget of $9.5 million and conducted 86 research projects and 13 clinical trials. With its interdisciplinary approach, ISM has contributed to the advancement of the fight against COVID-19 through a number of research projects.

For example, Dr. Marie Hélène Chomienne and many other researchers from ISM were involved in a project with the housekeeping staff. During the pandemic, housekeeping staff at Hôpital Montfort were among the first to contract COVID-19. This finding led Dr. Chomienne to set up a pilot project looking at how Montfort’s housekeeping workers were dealing with the pandemic and experiencing it on a daily basis. Funded by the Association médicale universitaire Montfort – Department of Family Medicine, this local research later received funding from Canadian Institutes of Health Research to be expanded in hospitals across Canada.
