Montfort becomes an international mentor for francophone health organizations
The academic hospital becomes the first Francophone host as RNAO's flagship Best Practice Spotlight Organization (BPSO)
Ottawa, April 12, 2019 – Montfort, Ontario’s Francophone academic hospital, is becoming an international reference for hospitals and health sector organizations that want to adopt the Best Practices Guidelines developed by the Registered Nurses’ Association of Ontario (RNAO).
More specifically, Montfort is the first Francophone host site as Best Practice Spotlight Organization (BPSO). The announcement was made during RNAO’s 94th Annual General Meeting, taking place in Toronto. More than 550 health institutions in Ontario and around the world, including in Jamaica, Peru and China, have already adopted RNAO’s best practices.
Montfort obtained its status as a BPSO in 2009 and 10 best practices have since been implemented, for example on smoking cessation, falls prevention and breastfeeding support.
As the only francophone academic hospital in Ontario, it is crucial for Montfort to adopt best practices in all its clinical areas. This approach is paying off and the hospital is welcoming a growing number of delegations of health professionals coming from France, Switzerland, Belgium, Argentina or Djibouti, among others, to observe the way things are done.

By supporting nurses and other health professionals to implement RNAO’s best practice guidelines (BPG), they are elevating the level of care provided to patients,” says Dr. Doris Grinspun, RNAO’s Chief Executive Officer and founder of the BPG program. “Today, we are particularly excited to announce that Hôpital Montfort is also RNAO’s first Best Practice Spotlight Organization (BPSO) Host responsible for mentoring other francophone health organizations in Canada and abroad to adopt and implement RNAO’s BPGs. We salute Dr. Bernard Leduc, Montfort’s CEO, and Chief Nurse Executive Suzanne Robichaud – alongside their entire team for being role models of excellence and for leading their organization and others to improve patient, organizational and health system outcomes.”
It is worth recalling that Montfort will host the 8th World Congress of the Secrétariat international des infirmières et infirmiers de l’espace francophone, which will take place in Ottawa in June 2021, and will bring together nearly 2000 nurses from some 30 French-speaking countries.
