White Paper on Healthcare in Ontario 2018

Montfort supports the three provincial health objectives, as defined by the Assemblée de la francophonie

OTTAWA, September 25, 2018 – The senior leadership of Montfort, Ontario's Francophone Academic Hospital, has learned with satisfaction of the main objectives raised by the Assemblée de la francophonie in the new edition of its White Paper on Healthcare in Ontario.

The three strategic issues proposed in this updated white paper “aim to support the Government of Ontario in:

  • reinforcing the gathering of evidence-based information;
  • improving access to French language health care; and
  • broadening the pool of French language human resources.”

Montfort has long supported these three objectives. “In fact, as a Francophone academic hospital offering exemplary care and training the next generation of Francophone health professionals, we are very proud to actively contribute to two of these objectives,” said Dr. Bernard Leduc, President and CEO of Montfort.
“However, access to quality, effective and efficient French-language health services remains a major issue for large sectors of the Francophone community elsewhere in the province,” notes Dr. Leduc. “Yet, patients cared for in their first language will ultimately cost less to the healthcare system, since they will get the right diagnosis faster, be better able to follow the instructions of caregivers and return home earlier; and be less likely to be readmitted to hospital in the weeks following discharge.”

“We hope that the new government will listen carefully to these very sensible suggestions from the Assemblée de la francophonie,” added Mr. Carl Nappert, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Hôpital Montfort.
