Lost USB Key Recovered and Secured

April 4, 2013 - The management of Hôpital Montfort is pleased to advise its patients and the population that on March 27, 2013, the USB key lost in the fall of 2012, has been recovered and is now stored in a secure location.

“At this time, the hospital has no information to suggest that the data has been used by a third party. An independent expert information technology opinion has been commissioned,” said Dr. Bernard Leduc, president and CEO of Hôpital Montfort.

“We wish to commend the honesty and diligence of the person who found the key and returned it to us”, continued Dr. Leduc.

Privacy and confidentiality of patient information remain a high priority for Hôpital Montfort. The hospital has already adopted concrete measures to minimize the risk of reoccurrence of such an incident in the future. An encryption by default approach of all USB keys used at Hôpital Montfort is now in effect and staff training on the importance of privacy and confidentiality of our patient’s health information remains our priority.

Those who would like to obtain additional information can read an open letter to all patients who received a notice in January.

Hôpital Montfort is a francophone institution that delivers quality care in both official languages, within an academic setting and working with its partners to improve the health of communities.
