Hôpital Montfort to present its “Médaille du 22 mars” to Mauril Bélanger
REVISED TIMING - Ottawa, June 8, 2016 - Montfort, Ontario’s Francophone Academic Hospital, invites the media and members of the community to a medal awards ceremony for its highest recognition, the Médaille du 22 mars.
- WHAT: Medal award ceremony for the Médaille du 22 mars
- WHO: The Médaille will be presented to the Honourable Mauril Bélanger, Member of Parliament for Ottawa-Vanier and a tireless defender of the rights of Francophone minority communities
- WHEN: Wednesday, June 15, 2016 around 7:30 PM
- WHERE: Hôpital Montfort’s Auditorium, 713, Montreal Road
Created in 2004, the medal recognizes the lasting importance of the events of March 22, 1997, whereas over 10,000 supporters of the hospital filled the Ottawa Civic Centre. They were responding to the S.O.S. Montfort call, just 26 days after an announcement that Montfort would be closed.
Out of the 22 medals in existence, only nine have been presented to date, by recommendation of the Hospital’s Board of Trustees, to groups or individuals who are a symbol of determination, tenacity and pride, three qualities that were essential to the successful campaign to preserve Hôpital Montfort.
The medal award ceremony will be held around 7:30 PM, during the Annual General Meeting of the Association de l’Hôpital Montfort. Members of the media and the public are welcome to attend both events.
