Hôpital Montfort awarded Bronze status by the Healthy Foods program
Montfort is recognized for its healthy food environment
Ottawa, Friday, December 18, 2015 – Hôpital Montfort received Bronze status from the Healthy Foods in Champlain Hospitals initiative, awarded by the Champlain Cardiovascular Disease Prevention Network (CCPN). Eight hospitals in the Champlain region have already received Bronze status; Montfort is the first hospital in the City of Ottawa to earn this distinction.
Launched in 2013 by the CCPN, this distinction recognizes the efforts of hospitals that promote healthy eating among their staff, physicians, visitors, patients and volunteers. These efforts allow everyone to make good food choices more easily. Every hospital in the Champlain region is part of this initiative.
The Healthy Foods in Champlain Hospitals initiative is the first of its kind in Canada. The Champlain Local Health Integration Network (LHIN) has played a leadership role. Ultimately, this initiative seeks to reduce the rate of chronic diseases like heart disease, stroke and cancer, by creating food environments that allow for healthy choices.
Hôpital Montfort is a Francophone academic health institution offering quality care in both official languages. With its partners, it contributes to improving the health of communities. Hôpital Montfort is designated a Group A teaching hospital; it was accredited with honourable mention by Accreditation Canada and was selected by the Registered Nurses Association of Ontario (RNAO) as a Best Practice Spotlight Organization.
